Commissioning

Commissioning is the process of working with our community and other stakeholders to understand local health needs, funding services to meet those needs, then monitoring and evaluating those services to ensure they are high-quality and outcomes are effective.

What is Commissioning?

One of the three core functions of Primary Health Networks is to commission primary care and mental health services to address population health needs and gaps in services to improve access and equity.

For Primary Health Networks, commissioning is a cycle of activities that include assessing local health needs, planning, co designing services, procuring providers, as well as monitoring and evaluating outcomes to ensure services are effective, integrated and aligned with community priorities.

Commissioning in Our Region

We support the health and wellbeing of people in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith areas by identifying local needs and service gaps, and commissioning services to meet those needs. We use health data and work in collaboration with local stakeholders including GPs, allied health professionals, community members, carers, hospital services and other organisations, to ensure that the services we fund provide evidence-based high-quality care that improve the health outcomes of our community, while delivering value for money.

Our Commissioning Framework guides the strategic planning, procurement, monitoring and evaluation of health services we commission.
