Accreditation is a voluntary program where a general practice is assessed against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for General Practices (5th Edition) ensuring your practice meets a high standard of safety and quality. The accreditation cycle lasts for three years.

What are the Benefits of Accreditation?
Accreditation is an important part of delivering safe, high‑quality care in general practice. There are many benefits to becoming an accredited general practice. Some of these include:
- Recognition within the primary care community that your practice is performing to best practice standards
- Giving your patients confidence that your practice is dedicated to delivering high quality care
- Improving patient services in terms of communication, patient management, preventative healthcare and medical records
- Improving safety for workers, patients and visitors
- Supporting the adoption of best practice guidelines on clinical and practice management, including reducing clinical risk
- Engaging members of the practice team in establishing quality systems and processes, creating a culture of quality
- Improving staff morale through increased management efficiencies
- Reflecting on what’s working well and identifying areas for improvement
- Quality Improvement (QI) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points
- Accessing Government Funding opportunities through the Practice Incentives Program (PIP), Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) and MyMedicare

Patient Feedback
The RACGP Standards for General Practices does not specify the methods practices must use to collect patient feedback. We encourage you consider what methods best suit your practice and your patients. Options available on the RACGP website are a good guide.
