Intergenerational Programs

A program that brings older people and preschool children together to build understanding, reduce loneliness and strengthen relationships across generations.

Available in
Blue Mountains Hawkesbury Penrith

What is this service?

This free program is designed to build stronger bonds between older people and preschool children in our community. By coming together in shared activities, you can learn from one another, build friendships, and feel more included and supported.

Each program offers something different, from art and music sessions to creative workshops and storytelling groups. All programs are delivered in safe, inclusive spaces and guided by experienced trained facilitators.

Benefits

Taking part in intergenerational programs helps reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and build a stronger sense of community.

You will benefit if you:

  • are an older person wanting to stay active, socially connected and engaged
  • want to take part in creative, inclusive experiences
  • want to increase your mental and/or physical health and quality of life

Shared activities create a sense of purpose, strengthen social skills and improve emotional wellbeing for everyone involved.

Eligibility

You can take part in an intergenerational program if you:

  • live in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith areas
  • are an older person who would benefit from social activities

There is no cost to participate, and no referral is needed.

Funding

This service is funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Evaluation of Programs

Our 2024 Evaluation showed that our Intergenerational Programs helped improve the wellbeing, confidence and social connections of older adults, with many enjoying meaningful interactions with young children.

Our Evaluation demonstrated that strong partnerships between community organisations and early childhood services supported successful program delivery. Overall, the evaluation concluded that the programs were beneficial, valued by participants and worth continuing or expanding in future.
