What we do
We can help you with all stages of primary care disaster management, from planning to response and recovery. Our support is free and is tailored to meet the needs of your individual health setting. We can visit you in person or provide support online or by phone. Our Disaster and Emergency Coordinator can provide valuable information and advice, when and where you need it.
Our work complements and supports the work of local, state and federal governments and emergency services who are primarily responsible for leading on the ground response and recovery efforts.
We can help you:
- make an emergency plan with specialised tools and support (Note that the Accreditation Standards for General Practices the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards for residential aged care both require emergency plans)
- review your emergency plan – it’s vital that once you have a plan you regularly review and practise it with your team
- connect you with local emergency and community services and ensure your plan has identified risks and information for your location
- by offering range of training opportunities online and in-person
- by providing localised Disaster Planning and Management information in HealthPathways
- by offering information and support during an incident
Need resources to help you plan, respond and recover from disasters and emergencies?
Become a GP Volunteer
Our region is prone to a variety of disasters and emergencies that can force people out of their homes and into evacuation centres.
We keep a register of GPs Volunteers who are willing to help if medical support is needed at a designated emergency evacuation centre.
Interested in Volunteering?
Contact our Disaster and Emergency Coordinator on 4708 8100 or via email to find out more.
Because you often live in the same community you care for, you may also be personally affected during an incident. Even once registered, your availability is voluntary, and you can reassess what you’re able to offer as the situation changes.
