Cervical Screening for People aged 70 and over

10 May 2018

Patients between the ages of 70 and 74 should be encouraged to participate in routine Cervical Screening through the National Cervical Screening Programme (NCSP).

If the Cervical Screening Test shows that no HPV infection is present, patients can safely stop screening and exit the NCSP. If HPV is detected, patients should be followed-up in line with the 2016 Cervical Cancer Screening Guidelines.

Patients who choose to continue screening beyond 75 years of age, will not receive reminders from the National Cancer Screening Register. However, reminders will be sent if an abnormal test result is received.
