Services For Primary Care

Domestic Family and Sexual Violence

We help primary care providers to recognise, respond and appropriately refer victim survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) by providing training and resources, and funding dedicated DFSV Linkers.

For allied health, GPs and general practice

What we do

Primary care is often the first point of contact for people affected by domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and child sexual abuse due to the physical injuries and mental health issues that result from abuse.

We help you to provide trauma-informed care to victim survivors in two ways. We build your capacity to recognise the signs of domestic, family or sexual violence and child sexual abuse through our Care and Connect training program, and when a disclosure is made, help you to respond and make appropriate referrals by funding DFSV Linkers.

Our training can help you:

  • create a climate within your practice for disclosure, which includes training the whole practice (including admin staff) to look for signs
  • identify suspected domestic, family or sexual violence and child sexual abuse (within children and adults) by asking the right questions
  • respond to disclosures in a trauma-informed way

After a disclosure, our Care and Connect Linkers can help you with:

  • case consultations including advice and information
  • local referral pathways or assist by case-managing the patient directly
  • uploading a GP DFSV Action Plan (HealthPathways for more information)
  • and much more

Care and Connect Linkers can help your patient with:

  • undertaking risk assessments and safety planning
  • seeking Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs)
  • counselling, seeking housing and financial support
