Wound Management Training and Development Program

We invite general practitioners (including registrars) and practice nurses (registered nurses and enrolled nurses) to submit an expression of interest to participate in our new Wound Management Training and Development Program. This program is facilitated by us through the Department of Health and Aged Care Wound Management Pilot Program, in partnership with The Benchmarque Group and the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA).

The program includes:

  • 1 full day workshop with The Benchmarque Group
  • Scholarship to attend the Wounds Australia 2022 Conference in Sydney
  • 2 half-day workshops on establishing nurse-led wound clinics
  • Participation in a Community of Practice group
  • Salary ‘backfilling’ for attendance at workshops and Community of Practice meetings

The Wound Management Training and Development Program will run from August to November 2022. Ensure you read the program information carefully before completing the EOI form.

Wound Management Pathway Scholarship

The Benchmarque Group’s Wound Management Pathway enables healthcare professionals to develop foundation knowledge and skills to assess, manage, and prevent wounds in primary healthcare. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will attain HLTENN039 ‘Apply principles of wound management’.

As part of the program, you will attend one of the following face-to-face workshops:

  • Monday 15 August 2022 9:00am - 4:30pm. Events Centre at Penrith Panthers.
  • Monday 22 August 2022 9:00am - 4:30pm. Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley, Windsor.
  • Thursday 25 August 2022 9:00am - 4:30pm. Carrington Hotel, Katoomba.

This will be followed by approximately 30 hours of online learning to complete the Wound Management Pathway and attain the qualification.

Wounds Australia 2022 Conference

Participants in the program will be invited to attend the Wounds Australia 2022 Conference: Time to Heal, Time to Unite, Time to Innovate, which is being held in Sydney 14 -17 September 2022. Please review the program overview to plan your attendance at this event.

Nurse Clinics Workshops

Nurse clinics offer an alternative model of care delivery, including for wound care and wound management, where the nurse is the primary provider of care for the patient. Participants will attend two half-day virtual workshops on Tuesday 11 October and Thursday 13 October, delivered by APNA. The workshops will cover nurse clinic planning, models of care, evaluation, staffing and HR, funding, patient engagement, and barriers and enablers.

Community of Practice Group

The Community of Practice Group will meet monthly to discuss program milestones and study progress. This also presents a great opportunity to meet and connect with the other participants.

  • Tuesday 29 November 2022 1:00 - 2:00pm

Applicant Declaration
  • By joining the program I agree to:
    • Attend one of the full day face-to-face workshops with The Benchmarque Group for the Wound Management Pathway.
    • Complete the Wound Management Pathway course (1 day workshop and online learning) by 6 December 2022. If I do not complete the Wound Management Pathway course by the stated deadline, I agree to pay back to Wentworth Healthcare 50% of the enrolment fee.
    • Be responsible for any travel and accommodation costs incurred in attending the Wounds Australia 2022 conference in Sydney. I understand that Wentworth Healthcare will pay for the conference registration fee only.
    • Attend and actively participate in APNA’s two half-day ‘Nurse Clinics’ virtual (online) workshops on 11 October and 13 October.
    • Attend and actively participate in the monthly online Community of Practice Group meetings.
    • Complete and submit an evaluation of the Wound Management Training and Development Program at the conclusion of the program.
    • Obtain the necessary approval and support from my employer to participate in the training program (for nurses).
