Overview

When seeing a new person, one of the first things a provider observes is that person's interpersonal style. This draws the provider into an exploration of the personality domain, as part of the initial assessment. However, this process can often mislead providers down a treatment path that does not help the person resolve their presenting issue.

Presentations at this forum will include examples to illustrate the need to review diagnoses and formulation, in order to support a person's journey to recovery. It will also cover the impact of personality on peoples' coping and adaptation styles, and how providers can work more effectively with people with challenging behaviours.

Mental Health Networking Forums enable local GPs, clinical practitioners, health workers, local service providers, the community and work sector, schools, parents, consumers and carers to network, stay up-to-date and express their views on locally relevant mental health and psychosocial issues.
