Nurses are well positioned to assist in the identification of people at-risk of eye disease, which can assist in tackling the 75 per cent of vision loss that can be avoided or treated with early detection.

Practice nurses provide assessment, screening, treatment, care and education to patients from all sections of the community. Knowledge of eye health and awareness of the need for vision care is of particular importance when nurses are seeing patients with diabetes, depression, the elderly and those at-risk of eye disease.

In addition to this face to face sessions, practice nurses will also get an opportunity to access online training for eye health and vision care. NBMPHN, in partnership with NSW Rural Doctor Network under will fund access to online training which nurses can do at their own convenient time.

If you can’t make one of these events, but would like to complete the online training, please contact us on 4708 8100.

Topics include:

  • Common causes of vision loss
  • Risk factors and how to detect vision loss
