Urgent Care and After Hours Services

Urgent Care Clinics

The Commonwealth and NSW Governments have committed to delivering community-based Urgent Care Clinics/Services to ease pressure on emergency departments and improve access to urgent care options for the community. These Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs) provide free (bulk billed) GP-led care for urgent but not life-threatening illnesses or injuries. They also offer easily accessible pathology and imaging services, are open on weekends and public holidays, and provide extended weekday opening hours.

Penrith Medicare Urgent Care Clinic

The Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care has funded one UCC in our region, located in Penrith. Through an open tender process we commissioned Cornerstone Health to establish the Clinic at Our Medical Penrith, in Jamisontown .

The Clinic:
  • is open from 8:00am - 8:00pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year
  • is located at Penrith Homemaker Centre, 2227 Wolseley Street, Jamisontown
  • is walk-in only, no need for patients to call ahead or to make an appointment
  • has X-ray facilities, pathology and a pharmacy on site
  • can treat urgent non life-threatening illnesses and injuries such as closed fractures, wounds (or injury requiring stitching) burns, leg ulcers, gastro, conditions requiring IV rehydration, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory tract conditions, ear, nose and throat infections, rashes, small abscess drainage and more.
X-Ray Hours
  • Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Saturday, 1:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Sunday, 9:00am - 1:00pm

UCCs do not replace the need for people to have a regular GP, and cannot provide healthcare needs such vaccinations, preventative health screening, mental health care plans or chronic disease management. As a PHN, we support models of care that preserve the relationship between a patient and their regular GP and continue to advocate for solutions that address primary care workforce shortages, and for further investment into new and innovative funding models that will make general practice more sustainable.
