Overview

Liver cancer, a large proportion of which is attributable to hepatitis B, is the fastest increasing cause of cancer death in Australia.  If you see culturally and linguistically diverse people in your practice, this update is for you.  There are 2,664 people living with chronic hepatitis B in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, with the highest prevalence in St Marys and Penrith.

Delivered by ASHM, with funding from the NSW Ministry of Health. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Know who to test and how to accurately interpret results
  • Improve the outcome of patients through early diagnosis, follow up and appropriate management (including vaccination of contacts)
  • Describe the intervention points throughout the natural history of HBV
  • Identify the different treatment options and the need for lifelong monitoring for people living whith chronic hepatitis B
