What is this service?
A series of free small group classes and education sessions to help you manage your chronic pain.
Each program consists of:
- a 3 hour in-person education and exercise session once a week that will run over 6 consecutive weeks
- small group size
- follow up sessions with participants at 12 weeks post program
You will be provided with the following:
- workbook which includes goal charts, exercise charts, suitable exercises and a list of resources including websites for further information relating to self-management of chronic pain
- relaxation techniques and assistance with setting up self-help routines at home
Benefits
This 6 week small group program combines exercise with practical education living with low to moderate chronic pain. Through guided self-management strategies, the program will:
- help you improve your functional capacity
- build your confidence and enhance your quality of life
- identify goals and any barriers or boundaries to managing your pain
- develop crisis management strategies and self-help routines
Eligibility
You can access the chronic pain management program if you:
- have been identified by your GP as having chronic pain
- experience pain lasting longer than 3 months or beyond the normal healing time of an injury that impacts your day-to-day functioning and psychological wellbeing (eg. musculoskeletal pain, whiplash, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia)
- have the ability and willingness to attend all six sessions plus two follow up sessions
Funding
The Chronic Pain Management Program is funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
