Stride Appointed to Deliver The Way Back NSW
Following an open tender process, Stride has been appointed as the commissioned service provider to deliver The Way Back NSW suicide aftercare service in our region. Stride is a not-for-profit organisation delivering programs and services across the mental health care and disability sectors.
The Way Back - Penrith will provide psychosocial support that is trauma informed and delivered by proactive outreach for people following a suicide attempt or who are experiencing a suicidal crisis. Personalised aftercare support will be provided for up to three months by trained support coordinators with a lived/living experience of suicide, under supervision of appropriate mental health professionals. Participants will be supported through increased social connectedness and links to services that suit their individual needs. The Way Back- Penrith will commence from April 2024.
Wellbeing Connector Service
As part of our aged care early intervention initiatives, we are aiming to integrate social prescribing into primary care, to improve the health system response to older adults who present at general practice with social care needs that, if not addressed, will result in poor health outcomes. This will be achieved by bringing community services and general practice together through Wellbeing Connectors, who will liaise between patients/consumers, health professionals and community organisations to match patients/consumers with relevant social supports and activities in the community.
Organisations are invited to submit a proposal for the establishment of Wellbeing Connector Services in the Nepean Blue Mountains region, which includes the Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow local government areas. The Wellbeing Connectors will work with older adults aged 65 years and over (or aged 55 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) to improve access to formal and informal services across the region to meet their social and community care needs.
Proposals from a variety of organisations are welcome. Submissions close 5:00pm Thursday, 29 February 2024. For more information, visit Tenderlink.
Suicide Prevention Peer Workers Support Training Program
As part of our community-wide approach to suicide prevention, we are providing a free training program to two organisations in the Nepean Blue Mountains region that employ or are looking to embed Suicide Prevention Peer Workers in their workforce.
We have funded Roses in the Ocean to provide an Understanding and Working with Suicide Prevention Peer Workers Training program to help build inclusive and supportive workplaces for Suicide Prevention Peer Workers. Participants will gain a better understanding and appreciation of Suicide Prevention Peer Workers, their values, principles and approaches. Suicide Prevention Peer Workers do not attend this training.
The training will be provided in two parts:
- Part 1 is a 4-hour training designed for anyone who works in or with the organisation (managers, team members, clinicians, administrative staff), people who make referrals to your service and anyone with a curiosity about suicide prevention peer work.
- Part 2 is a 2-hour training specifically designed for managers of Suicide Prevention Peer Workers (including direct managers and others in the management hierarchy of your organisation).
This free training will be offered to two eligible organisations and will be conducted separately. A maximum of 15 participants can attend the training.
To register your interest, complete the form on the Suicide Prevention Peer Workers Support Training page.Organisations will be selected based on the responses to the Selection Criteria and acceptance of the Terms and Conditions of the training.
