GPs and Practice Nurses are encouraged to attend!

The STI Foundation Course is for non-specialist and specialist healthcare professionals seeking skills development to manage people with sexually transmitted infections.

The main aim of this course is to equip participants with the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes for the diagnosis and management of common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and to know when and how to refer.

Learning outcomes:

  • Discuss the principles of STI service provision
  • Explain the issues relating to confidentiality, partner notification and treatment
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the epidemiology and the factors involved in the transmission of STI's and how to prevent transmission
  • Apply basic knowledge of common STI's, their presentation, diagnosis and management
  • Know when and where to refer patients with these conditions

This is an Active Learning Module (ALM) and GPs will need to complete a pre-disposing activity, 6 hours of education and a reinforcing activity to be eligible for 40 Category 1 points with the RACGP QI & CPD Program.
