GPs and Practice Nurses are well placed to improve the health outcomes of people living with Hepatitis C. This can also reduce a patient's risk of developing advanced liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma through early diagnosis, thorough evaluation of liver disease severity, appropriate management of co-morbidities, pre-treatment assessment and initiation of DAA therapy.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify priority populations for Hepatitis C testing
  • Interpret test results and diagnose Hepatitis C appropriately
  • Assess for liver fibrosis and other co-morbidities
  • Explain which patients can be managed in primary care and those requiring specialist referral
  • Initiate treatment, monitor and follow-up according to the recommended guidelines
