Our mental health team is no stranger to innovation. In the past, we have developed a number of new and exciting tools to make accessing local health services easier, including the very popular Mental Health Help website, which helps people find the right mental health service to support their needs.
This week, are proud to be launching a new online tool that vastly improves the way people can calculate the NDIS support they might be eligible for. We believe this is the first tool of its kind that will not just benefit NDIS participants and support coordinators in our region, but could be used across many other parts of Australia.
More than 183,965 Australians benefit from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which helps people with a disability to achieve their goals. This may include greater independence, community participation, employment or improving well-being. Up to 460,000 people are expected to receive a disability support package in the NDIS.
As a result, there are literally hundreds of different options and combinations of support that a person may be eligible to receive under the NDIS. And until now for most people calculating this support has been a manual process.
Our new NDIS calculator reduces the time this takes to just minutes, simplifying and automating the process of understanding the costs associated with supports someone may be elgible for under the NDIS. It can then generate a printable report that could be used in discussions with an NDIS planner.
To date, the new online tool has been used by our Partners in Recovery program Support Facilitators, and the feedback has been excellent! We have also given early access to it to disability advocacy organisations such as Carers NSW, Disability Advocacy NSW and Wellways Australia as well as other Primary Health Networks (PHNs), and it has received widespread support. It can be used not only by healthcare providers, but also by potential or current NDIS participants as well as their carers.
We are therefore excited to now publically release the tool as part of the Nepean Disability Expo in Penrith this weekend.
If you are attending the Nepean Disability Expo, please drop in to Stand 8 to speak with our staff and see a demonstration of the NDIS calculator.
You can also download our NDIS calculator brochure (pdf, 1.4mb), which provides a case study example to help show the tool in action.
