Working with Allied Health

This week, it was my pleasure to attend our Allied Health Advisory Committee meeting. The Allied Health Advisory Committee (AHAC) was established in 2016 to provide a sounding board to our organisation that represents allied health within the region.

The Committee is an invaluable resource to identify health needs and issues in the allied health space, and provide input on how we can continue to enhance the collaboration between GPs and allied health.

One of the key focuses for the meeting was the NDIS. The information provided at the meeting highlighted to us all that the upcoming demand expected for NDIS related-services will likely exceed the supply of the current local allied health workforce.

While it is exciting to see the success and growth of NDIS, the future will present us with some challenges as we start preparing for the increased pressure from this extra demand.

I would like to say how in awe I am of the enthusiasm displayed by the Allied Health Advisory Committee. It is clear that the high calibre of healthcare professionals involved in the group, and their passion for driving improvement and better patient outcomes in everything they do is a real credit to them and an enormous asset for our region.
