Coronavirus has put our health in the spotlight over the last few months, yet many of us have been avoiding the doctor and putting our health on hold.
As an organisation focussed on primary healthcare, we’re concerned that people may be ignoring their health issues out of fear of COVID-19. We want people to know that it is okay to see your GP.
As a community, we’ve had to put many things on hold as result of this pandemic but our health should not be one of them. Good primary healthcare is fundamental to our health system. It keeps people well and out of hospital, which is even more important right now during COVID-19.
Don’t avoid checking in with your family doctor. It’s important for your long-term health that you continue to see your GP for health checks, cancer screening, chronic health conditions and any other health concerns.
There are now a number of ways patients can consult with their GP including by telephone, video calls and face-to-face consultations. General practices have put many extra precautions in place to make sure they are safe for patients to visit. Your practice will help you decide what option is best for you when you call to make an appointment.
COVID-19 will be with us for many months ahead, so don’t put your health on hold. It is safe to visit your GP. Call your family doctor today to discuss what options are available.
