Every healthcare provider has the aim to improve patient health and our organisation wholeheartedly supports this pursuit. There are opportunities for the healthcare system to be more 'connected' when multiple healthcare professionals manage the care of a patient, although this is often challenging, given the time limitations and pressures our health system faces.
We can play a role in helping to unite local providers, generating opportunities for them to connect with each other and gain a greater understanding of what other health disciplines can offer a patient.
Online communication is a growing reality in all our day to day lives, so it was a natural step for us to create an online space that allows professional discussion and networking between healthcare providers.
Our first online community, the Nepean Blue Mountains Healthcare Professionals facebook group, was set up in 2014. It currently has a strong allied health membership, and we would love to see it expanded to include more general practitioners.
Recently, we also introduced an online facebook community for our Practice Nurse Network. This is a forum to complement the existing network we established for practice nurses, allowing them to hold relevant discussion online in addition to their face to face meetings.
To all healthcare providers in our region, I extend to you an invitation to join one of these communities and encourage you to take the opportunity to make some online connections with other local health professionals.
