Community Led Suicide Prevention 2024 EOI
Through the Targeted Regional Initiatives for Suicide Prevention from the Department of Health and Aged Care, we are funding suitable organisations to deliver community-based activities in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith.
We are inviting organisations to submit an EOI to deliver community-led suicide prevention program targeting populations identified at risk of suicide or suicidal distress in communities that:
- identify and support distressed or struggling peers or community members
- offer peer support and mentorship programs for people at risk or impacted by suicide
and/or their carers and family
- improve the way people navigate and access services providing care
- offer support when, where, and how people need it, including online, telephone, videoconference, and face to face
- encourage connections to life and create hope through action to support community wellbeing, social cohesion, connectedness, and supportive friendship and relationships
- support individuals and communities to give and receive help and de-stigmatise suicide
- build inclusive communities able to respond to suicide and suicidal ideation or distress.
The funding amount that is available for the successful provider(s) are in three categories:
- Category 1: up to $25,000 for each program
- Category 2: $25,001 to $50,000 for each program
- Category 3: over $50,000 for each program

Stride Appointed to Deliver The Way Back NSW
Following an open tender process, Stride has been appointed as the commissioned service provider to deliver The Way Back NSW suicide aftercare service in our region. Stride is a not-for-profit organisation delivering programs and services across the mental health care and disability sectors.
The Way Back - Penrith will provide psychosocial support that is trauma informed and delivered by proactive outreach for people following a suicide attempt or who are experiencing a suicidal crisis. Personalised aftercare support will be provided for up to three months by trained support coordinators with a lived/living experience of suicide, under supervision of appropriate mental health professionals. Participants will be supported through increased social connectedness and links to services that suit their individual needs. The Way Back- Penrith will commence from April 2024.
