My Health Record

My Health Record is the national digital health record system.

Having a My Health Record means your important health information like allergies, medical conditions and treatments, medicine details, test or scan reports can be digitally stored in one place.

Healthcare providers like doctors, specialists and hospital staff can see it online from anywhere at any time when they need to, like in an accident or emergency or if you are travelling and need to see a doctor out of your region.

Health information stored in your record can include information from you, your healthcare providers, and Medicare. As more people use the My Health Record system, Australia’s national health system will become better connected. This will result in faster and more efficient care for you and your family.

Strict rules and regulations on who can see or use your My Health Record protect your health information from misuse or loss.

How My Health Record is helping our community

Penrith resident John Ruttle is affected by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which is a respiratory condition that makes breathing difficult. John, who is also President of the Nepean Puffers Support Group, and his wife Lennette talk about how My Health Record helps them.

Hawkesbury residents Ray and Lorraine Gardner are affected by a number of chronic health conditions. As frequent travellers, they rely on My Health Record to be able to access no matter where they may be.

My Health Record is now National

Early 2019,  the Australian Government legislated that a My Health Record be created for all Medicare and DVA card holders in Australia unless they choose not to have one. 91.9% of the Australian population now have a My Health Record.

Residents who lived in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith areas in July 2016 automatically received a My Health Record as part of an opt out trial (unless they chose to opt out at the time) making them one step ahead of the nation.

If you already have a My Health Record and wish to cancel it, please visit the My Health Record website for instructions.

  • Enabling other health professionals you authorise to see your key health summary so you don't have to repeat it or worry about forgetting important information, like medications from local pharmacies or hospitals.
  • Helping you and your healthcare providers to better manage complex or chronic conditions
  • You can customise access to your My Health Record by setting access controls including restricting who can see your information, or cancel your record, at any time.
